Sharing a paid account on Netflix: how can you cut costs?

On February 8, streaming giant Netflix announced the launch of a new feature enabling its users to share their account by subscribing to an additional paid option. The new feature is part of the company's drive to recoup revenue from the 100 million households that access the catalog without paying.

Already available in South America, it is now being rolled out in Europe, with Spain and Portugal the only two countries affected by the new rules for the time being. Users in these countries can add a member to their account for an additional fee. Ranging from 3.99 euros to 5.99 euros per month, depending on the country or subscription type, these additional costs impact the monthly budget allocated to these services by users. For a standard subscription in Spain, this extra cost adds up to 48% per month on top of the initial price.

The price of the Standard subscription in Spain therefore rises from €12.99 to €24.79 per month with this new feature, an increase of around 48% on the initial price. In France, such an increase is feared by users, all the more so at a time of high inflation.
