Music at your fingertips

Music streaming is on the rise and is THE new method of music consumption for the French far ahead of the CD. In fact, the very first music streaming service, Deezer, is French.

If when it comes to catalogues, most offers are the same, when it comes to "family" packages it's a different story.

What is music streaming?

With music streaming, no less than tens of millions of tracks are available to you 24 hours a day for as long as your subscription lasts. In exchange, you don't own the music and will no longer be able to access it if you stop paying for the service.

Disadvantage? Not for French consumers, more than five million of whom already subscribe to one or other of the giants in the sector. The main reasons given are: 91% choice and 68% the possibility of listening to your music on a variety of devices.

To share the cake, there are six main competitors: Deezer, Spotify, Qobus, Google Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Napster.

Similar music offers :

  • Deezer, the French leader, offers a student subscription at 4.99 euros per month. It increases to 9.99 euros for an individual subscription and 14.99 euros for a family subscription.
  • Same prices and services for Spotify and Apple Music.

Amazon music and Google Music do not offer a student subscription but integrate complementary services:

  • Amazon Music is included in the Amazon Prime offer, which allows you to benefit, for the same price, from a video streaming service (Amazon prime video) and delivery in one working day for items purchased from the eponymous giant.
  • Google Play music, on the other hand, offers access to the YouTube Music channel and its video clips.

Qobuz and Napster only offer an individual subscription at 9.99 euros per month.

The "family" offers

For Apple Music and Google Music other users must be members of your family without further information.

On Google Play music the notion of family is just as vague. Plus you can share your music on up to ten devices per person. This sharing is also valid for Google applications. Be careful however with the payment method which becomes family by default all users could, therefore, use on the site.

Can you listen to your music abroad?

Yes and no.

If you have taken the trouble to record your music in "offline" mode before you leave, it will be available no matter what country you are in.

Otherwise, since 3 April 2018, thanks to the European directive on the portability of online content, it is possible to listen to your streaming service in any member country, but only if the subscription was taken out in France before leaving and for a limited period. It is the responsibility of the access provider to check that this is not a definitive domiciliation, in which case the subscription will be cancelled.

Increasingly used, music streaming services are raising their prices. Deezer, for example, has raised its price by 3 euros in 2018. Why not pay less by sharing the subscription? The safest and quickest way to do this is to create an online jackpot and share the address with those interested.
